Committees and Councils

Committee on CDHM
The Committee in Children’s Dental Health Month plans and coordinates WCDDA activities for the National Children’s Dental Health Month. It reviews the activities of component and affiliate dental associations. Committee members and affiliate chairpersons coordinate activities in their respective areas. Each committee member represents a component area of the state. Each affiliate chairperson coordinates activities in their areas.
Committee on the New Dentist
This committee is responsible for assessing and responding to the needs of Florida’s new dentists. It develops strategies for recruiting and retaining new dentists as members of organized dentistry. The committee also is charged with developing local-level networks to help new dentists become actively involved in organized dentistry.
House of Delegates
The House of Delegates is the WCDDA’s legislative body. The House meets twice a year to make the association’s policy decisions. It consists of elected delegates and alternate delegates from each component, two student delegates and two alternate student delegates. Delegates and alternatives serve one-year terms and are designated by components by the fall of 2004 for the January 2005 and June 2005 WCDDA House of Delegates (pending any changes from re-allocation or from components.
Council on Association Affairs
The Council on Association Affairs reviews and recommends a yearly WCDDA operating
budget to the Board of Trustees and House of Delegates. It also monitors the
adequacy of the WCDDA cash reserves and the condition of other association assets.
It recommends and monitors WCDDA affiliations with outside companies for purposes
of generating non-dues revenue.
The council periodically reviews and recommends changes in the WCDDA’s
travel-reimbursement guidelines.
The council also monitors the activities of the Florida Dental Health Foundation
and the WCDDA Services Inc.
Council on Communications
The Council in Communications recommends ways to improve the WCDDA’s internal and external communications. In coordination with the editor, it evaluated the effectiveness of WCDDA publications. It develops, evaluates and maintains to WCDDA’s World Wide Web site (wcdental.org). It coordinates the associations public-relations program, IMPACT, and manages the WCDDA’s media relations, including the Spokespersons Program and the associations annual Media Merit Awards.
Council on Dental Care
The Council on Dental Care oversees the WCDDA’s promotion of quality dental benefit plans based on the direct assignment and direct reimbursement concepts. It also monitors the activities of state government agencies that regulate the insurance industry.
Council on Dental Education
The Council on Dental Education monitors dental and allied dental-training programs available in Florida; analyzes curricula and accreditation standards for allied dental-training programs; and develops mechanisms to teach school-age children the importance of proper dental-health care. It also coordinates the WCDDA’s Student Loan Program, which provides financial assistance to needy dental students. The council monitors continuing-education programs provided for dentists and allied dental personnel. It monitors Florida Board of Dentistry activities that deal with dental and allied-dental education.
Council on Governmental Affairs
The Council on Governmental Affairs reviews and recommends WCDDA policies aimed at assuring a responsive and effective governmental-relations program. It recommends legislative initiatives to the Board of Trustees and House of Delegates; maintains communications with FLADPAC and DENTPAC; and encourages members to participate in the legislative process. It monitors and makes recommendations about the WCDDA’s Legislative Contact and Dentists Program; Legislative Education and Action Program; and ensures that WCDDA policies are communicated to state government agencies. It also assists with Florida’s grassroots dentist activities through the WCDDA’s Washington office.
Council on Membership
The Council on Membership is responsible for WCDDA membership recruitment and retention programs. Its major duties include developing and implementing a statewide recruitment and retention plan.; identifying nonmember target markets; coordinating recruitment activities with component and local dental society committees; and recommending to the Board of Trustee and House of Delegates membership polices, categories and requirements.
Project: Dentists Care Inc. Board of Directors
Project: Dentists Care Inc. is a private, non-profit, charitable corporation.
It was established to develop a network of Florida Dental Association-recognized
dental-access programs throughout the state. Component and local dental society
programs can affiliate with PDC.
PDC serves as an informational clearinghouse in all programs that provide dental
treatment to underserved populations throughout Florida. The PDC network consists
of pro bono and reduced-fee dental programs. Most PDC network programs are private/public
partnerships using volunteer dentist to provide dental care to eligible patients
in public facilities.
